Farmers Branch Workshop

2010 Workshop.  Hey Partner!  This year’s Wild Wild West Workshop was a real cooker!  We kicked off at the annual Thursday evening open dance at the Plaza Arts Center in  downtown historic Carrollton.  Our guests, Michael Barr and Michele Burton joined us for a rootin’ tootin’ good time, as did our mystery guests… Jean and Wade Vick.

In tribute to Dorothy Denman, we began the Workshop by dancing Lost At Sea With Dorothy D.   The Workshop was also dedicated to the memory of Margie Whaley, Waco Line Dance Teacher.

For the next two days, we booted and scooted with world-famous choreographers,Michael Barr and Michele Burton, as they, along with Nikki Simpson, taught us the 13 newly-nominated jamboree dances.

Michael and Michele are the authors of well-known dances like Rain Against My Window, Doors of Life, Rumba Breeze, Divisadero Cha, Greased Lightning, American Pop, Second Chance Waltz, Midnight Rendezvous, Last Days of Disco, and many more.

About thirty people joined us for a Friday night open dance at the Heritage Senior Center in Irving, Texas.

On Saturday, we danced right up to the deadline, and we believe it’s safe to say that “a good time was had by all".

So, hay… if you missed the fun this year, don’t let it happen again!  Next year’s Jamboree Workshop is planned for April 14, 15, and 16.  Be shore to git it ‘n gear and mark yore calendars right now!  The 2011 registration form will be found here when it's available.  Click here for a list of area Hotels and Restaurants and some useful maps to help ya git where yore heading!

New 2010 Dances.  The results are in... the new dances for 2010 are marked with a "" star!  The following 13 dances were nominated in January by the Texas teachers to be new Jamboree dances.  These dances were taught at the April Workshop, and the instructors voted in May for the 8 eight dances to be selected as new dances for the 2010 Texas Line Dance Jamboree on October 15-16.  There was a tie for eighth place, so as in the past, rather than break the tie we'll have 9 new dances this year.  We're tried to provide a link to Yipee.sg for the step sheet and a video or two... just click on the name of the dance.  See you in San Antonio at the Jamboree in October!

2009 Workshop... a Rockin’ Good Time at the Hop!   Like Wow!!  It was 1950’s style and we shimmied ‘n shaked, bopped ‘n hopped with Elvis, Jerry Lee, Marilyn, James, Sandra, and Frankie.  It was a gas!   We found a few photos  from last year’s Workshop and hope you will enjoy looking at them and remembering the fun weekend we had together... click on the thumbnail for a larger picture To us, the most important part of the Workshop are the people who gather together for the renewing of old friendships and the making of new friendships.

A SPECIAL THANK-YOU to everyone who attended this fun and crazy workshop and who dressed in their 50’s garb.  We are so grateful for our loyal participants who enable us to continue every year to hold this special event.  You make it all possible!  We love you all!

2008 Workshop... Tales of the West.  Cattle rustlers, horse thieves, gamblers, flim flammers, and ladies of… uh, well, you know… showed up at this Workshop.   Seemed like everybody thar was a wanted outlaw… lessen, of course, they claim it was a long-lost relative whose picture was in them wanted posters!

A few of the 2008 Workshop photos are shown below.  Even with all the  questionable characters in attendance, the Workshop was a huge success and we owe a great big THANKS! to everybody who attended.

2010 Workshop.  We hope you will return this year to carry on this tradition of fun and friendship.  And… if you missed the Workshop last year, don’t let it happen again!  We need each unique spark from every dancer to keep our flame a-burnin’.  Remember, the date for this year's Workshop is April 15-17, 2010, which includes the Thursday night party!  See you in April at the...
