Farmers Branch Workshop

2010 Workshop.  We are in high gear and gettin' ready for this year’s Workshop and it should be a good one!  The dates for the Workshop are April 15, 16, and 17.  Be sure to mark your calendars.  Click here for 2010 registration form.

Workshop Dance Nominations.  Each Jam teacher has been asked to nominate up to two dances for the 2010 Workshop.  To give the Workshop Instructors time to learn the dances, the nominations need to be received no later than February 1 (the sooner the better).  You can email or snail mail.  Send nominations to Nikki Simpson at rockinredrodeo@tx.rr.com For the nomination, please send the exact names of the dances and the year each dance was choreographed, the name of the choreographer(s), the names of the music, along with the stepsheets.

The dances can be any level (i.e., beginner, high beginner, intermediate, intermediate-advanced, advanced, etc.) and any style (i.e., waltz, cha, rock, country, nightclub, etc.).

The dances must be “new” to the Workshop (never previously nominated or taught at the Workshop).

No dance over two years old should be nominated and more current dances are preferred.

Please DO NOT nominate dances by local choreographers or nominate your own dances.  Please do not ask others to nominate a particular dance.  The nomination process should remain confidential.

If you know of a teacher who does not receive email, please pass this information on to that person.

Many lower parts of this page are out of date and will be updated as information is available... but they're reminders of the great fun enjoyed at the Workshop!  We hope you were able to attend.    Scroll down to the "Dances" section to see which dances have been selected by the instructors for the Jam in October.

Dances.  Dance nominations for this year's Workshop are listed below.  The eight dances recently selected for the Jamboree in October are marked with a blue star ().  Forty-eight instructors voted this year... thank you for your participation.  The number by the star is number of votes received for that dance.  We have eight great new dances!  Where available, we're tried to provide the choreographer's step sheet and a video or two.  Click on the dance for a step sheet and on the camera icon for a video.  See you at the Jamboree in October!

2008 Workshop... a Big Thank-You to Everyone!  Last year, the fun started Thursday evening, April 17th with an open dance party.  The Workshop was Friday, April 18th, and continued on Saturday afternoon, April 19th, in the ballroom of the Farmers Branch Senior Center.  We want to thank all them cattle rustlers, horse thieves, gamblers, flim flammers, and ladies of… uh, well, you know… that showed up at last year's Workshop.   Seemed like everybody thar was a wanted outlaw…lessen, of course, they claim it was a long-lost relative whose picture was in them wanted posters!

Even with such questionable characters in attendance, the Workshop was a huge success and we owe a great big THANKS! to everybody who attended.  We have a loyal following of Texas and non-Texas participants whose support enables us to continue every year to hold this special event that presents and teaches the dances nominated to be a part of the Texas Line Dance Jamboree.  It was a very special group of teachers and students who attended the Workshop and we want you to know we are extremely grateful for your presence.  There were many newcomers on the scene and that was a tremendous boost for us.  Not only did we have new people from Texas, but also from Kansas, Mississippi, Florida, Oklahoma, and Washington state!!!

A Special Thanks to the 2008 Instructors.  We want especially to thank   Michael Barr and Michele Burton for their fun-loving enthusiasm and top-notch teaching skills!  They opened the “doors” to give it “life,” “giggles,” “wiggles,” “funk,” “flow,” and just a touch of the “blues.”   Yes, at the Workshop we truly did “dance with the stars!”

We also thank Mona Puente, not only for her firecrackin’, finger-snappin’-good teaching techniques, but also for leading her team to dazzle us with another awesome performance by the TEXAS BOOTSCOOTERS!  They were, indeed, amazing and we were so privileged to have them for a second year.

And, thank you Rosalee Musgrave for a job well-done!  Rosalee good-heartedly “boogied” and “banded” along with us to give us her wonderfully professional teaching style.

2008 Memories.  We’ve put together a collection of scenes from last year’s Workshop and hope you will enjoy looking at them and remembering the fun weekend we had together... click on the thumbnail for a larger picture.  Several people voiced the sentiment that even though the dances selected and the teaching and the craaaaazzy art work and the entertainment were terrific, those things were not the most important.  What was uppermost in importance was the people who gathered together—and the renewing of old friendships and the making of new friendships.  That was the most valued part of the Workshop.
